Abstract

On distributed multimedia systems, we have been ableto communicate with each others by using audio andvideo streams. If we can use super high speed networkwe may construct intercommunication environments byhigh quality video multicast streams such as DV (DigitalVideo) that uses about 30Mbps per a stream. Moreover,if translator and mixer functions defined by RTPare available on the intercommunication environments,it is able to transcode the high quality videostreams into another format of stream. We can getusefulness peer-to-peer communication environments. However, it is difficult for us to prepare the suitabletranscoding node in advance because the requiredintercommunication environments are not alwaysstatic. Accordingly, we should consider on demandtranscoding functions with relocatable decisionmethod. In this paper we propose a mobile agentbased novel middleware system that realizes mediaprocessing and session management by using mobileagents.
