In conventional protocols, when the control packets collided with otherones or the packets didn't get a data channel from the channel reservationmechanism, these packets should be retransmitted. But, when transmissiondistance becomes long, it takes a long time to transmit the controlpackets and the propogation dalay time will be long. In this paper, wepropose a new media access protocol for single hop Wavelength DivisionMultiplexing (WDM) networks with a passive star topology. The proposedprotocol can allocate data channels without retransmitting control packetsexcept the collided ones. The simulation results show that the proposedprotocol can provide high data channel usage rate and a low number ofcollided control packet even if the transmission distance is long. Furthermore, the proposed protocol has good performance comparied with conventionalprotocols.
