Designers of auto-adaptive systems must devise a wayto engage the right response at the right time. In orderto bring auto-adaptive capabilities to mainstreamdistributed systems, it must be ascertained that theadaptation architecture is capable of mountingappropriate adaptive responses in a timely manner. Inthis paper we present an approach to designingadaptation control frameworks that facilitate suchtime-appropriate adaptations. We have used thisapproach in designing various adaptation controlarchitectures using the QuO (Quality Objects)adaptive middleware framework.
