Abstract

A mobile ad hoc network is a kind of wirelesscommunication network that does not rely on a fixedinfrastructure and is lack of any centralized control. These characteristics make it vulnerable to securityattack, so protecting the security of the network isessential. Like many distributed systems, security in adhoc networks widely relies on the use of keymanagement mechanisms. However, traditional keymanagement systems are not appropriate for them. Thiswork aims at providing a secure and distributedauthentication service in ad hoc networks. We proposea secure public key authentication service based on ourtrust model and network model to prevent nodes fromobtaining false public keys of the others when there aremalicious nodes in the network. We perform an overallevaluation of our proposed approach by simulations. The experimental results indicate clear advantages ofour approach in providing effective security in mobilead hoc networks.
