Abstract

Emerging wireless infrastructure such as WiFi andBluetooth networks make possible mobile applicationsthat allow employees to carry out business computingtasks while not at a fixed computer and while at varyinglocations. One particular mobile enterprise use-caseinvolves a worker such as a consultant who is visitingmultiple branches of the same enterprise or visitingmultiple enterprises and who needs to access electronicbusiness records at each of these locations. Businessrecords can be large and have a complex structuremaking their access from a mobile device somewhatintractable given device and bandwidth limitations. Inthis paper we propose an object-oriented database-basedarchitecture for mobile enterprise applications that usesthe object-oriented schema of the data itself to auto-generatean interface for accessing business recordsincrementally on mobile devices. This architecture henceprovides a way to access large business records frommobile devices by natively supporting incrementalretrieval and accessing of the records.
