In recent years, frameworks are very popularas they provide reusable solutions to very difficultproblems. However, the number of frameworks for agiven domain makes it difficult to select the mostappropriate framework. Selecting the wrong frameworkor selecting a framework that has not yet matured canbe disastrous for a project. The choice of an applicationframework can make or break a project. Unfortunately, the lack of formal criteria and metrics to objectivelycompare/contrast frameworks, assess the framework'scapabilities, and determine the framework's suitabilityto a particular project, make framework selectionextremely difficult. Very little research has beenconducted on determining the suitability of aframework. This paper defines criteria that can be usedat a high-level to understand a framework's overallusefulness and at a low-level to understand theframework's suitability to a particular domain. Thedefined criteria of our approach are then used todetermine the suitability of using an exampleframework.
