Wireless networks, specifically IEEE 802.11, areinexpensive and easy to deploy, but their signals canbe detected by eavesdroppers at great distances. Evenwith existing and new security measures, wirelessnetworks have a higher risk than wired nets. WIDS,Wireless Intrusion Detection System, provides anadditional layer of security by combining intrusiondetection with physical location determination, usingdirectional antennas. We briefly describe WIDS andpresent our initial results of remote station locationusing inexpensive hardware.
