Abstract

Current business presentations are commonlymultimedia-based and with the realization of the mobileenterprise, accessing of such presentations stored onservers from mobile devices will become increasinglycommon. However as a roaming mobile device usermoves, factors that change include the local wirelessnetwork technology, the available bandwidth, thecurrently closest source of the media files and even thecontinuity of wireless access. The XML-based standard,Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL),provides a format to specify the display sequence andlayout of media files in a multimedia presentation. In thispaper we present a SMIL-based system for mobile devicesthat is able to dynamically adapt presentations inresponse to such changing mobile computing-relatedfactors as those given above.
