Abstract

Range-based labeling scheme allows determining theancestor relation between two nodes in constant time. Onedisadvantage is that relabeling is unavoidable when arbitraryinsertions are allowed. In this paper, one practicalalgorithm is presented to extend range-based scheme to accommodatearbitrary insertions without relabeling by combiningwith prefix-based labeling scheme. Range allocationmethods to improve the performance of the labeling methodare also considered.
