Abstract

Today's workforce is becoming increasingly mobile.Handheld devices have evolved into indispensableenterprise tools, which enhance the mobile knowledgeworkers' ability to remain connected and productive. AWPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network) is intended formobility and simple, short-range point-to-pointcommunication with personal devices. The usage ofBluetooth wireless network technology is growing as itexploits low-cost, power efficient radio technology tosupport both point-to-point and point-to-multipointconnections. However, knowledge workers may find outthat Bluetooth devices work with some products and notwith others. The study will report on compatibility andinteroperability issues experienced during the setting upof a Mobile Enterprise Bluetooth and WLAN Laboratoryat the University of Technology in Sydney. It examineswhether Bluetooth could be an adequate mobile solutionin m-enterprises.
