GRID codes: Strip-based erasure codes with high fault tolerance for storage systems

We examine two different schemes of three dimensionalparity checking codes that can be obtained by arrangingthe information and parity bits as a combination of rowsand columns or by arranging them as two dimensionalplanes to obtain a three dimensional cube. Finding thenumber of errors detected and the numbers of errorscorrected has been the main aim of this work. The coderate and the over head of each scheme has beencalculated and compared with that of the standard parityschemes available. Some general equations have beenderived to represent these families of codes. A fourdimensional scheme that can detect and correct moremultiple errors has also been discussed.
