Abstract

This paper proposes a new efficient method to detectellipses in binary or gray-scale images, calledRestricted Randomized Hough Transform (RRHT). Thekey of RRHT is to restrict the scope of selected pointswhen detecting ellipses by prior image processing, fromwhich the information of curves can be obtained andfurther work focuses on detection and validation ofeach curve orderly. Artificial images and natural grayimages are employed to test this method and the resultsshow that RRHT spends less time to detect ellipses moresuccessfully compared with that of conventionalRandomized Hough Transform (RHT).
