Abstract

Rigorous interpretation of pronouns in possible when syntax, semantics, and pragmatics of a discourse can be reasonably controlled. Interaction with a database provides such an environment. In the framework of the User Specialty Languages system and Discourse Representation Theory, we formulate strict and preferential rules for pronominalization and outline a procedure to find proper assignments of referents to pronouns.
