Abstract

A new queuing model based performance analysis approach for end-to-end synchronization methods used in voice over ATM is discussed in this paper. In contrast to the conventional phase locked loop (PLL) based methods and the like to obtain performance measurements for synchronization systems, the new method allows us to compute certain quality of service (QoS) related parameters like packet loss, delay and delay jitter. We present a new state dependent queuing model to analyze the performance of adaptive timing by extending the traditional G/D/1/K queue model. Recursive computation algorithms to calculate probability distribution of queue size as well as the output clock jitter are provided. Finally, we present numerical and simulation results to verify the accuracy of our queuing based analytical method.
