Abstract

The use of the technology has advanced from the automation of structured processes to systems that are truly revolutionary in that they introduce change into fundamental business procedures, work flow and the management of an organization. Indeed, it is believed that "More than being helped by computers, companies will live by them, shaping strategy and structure to fit new information technology" This paper presents the understanding of how information systems (IS) affect some key measures of work and organization structure. The study with users from different local organizations with exposure to IS was conducted to provide an in-depth insight into the impact of information systems on work and the business performance in the organization. As a result, observation has been made that changes in organization procedures, workflows and management require knowledge-based workers. This leads to recommendations on how an organization can develops its information systems to nurture knowledge workers.
