Abstract

Research in the area of end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) has produced important results over the last years. However, most solutions use a pre-configured management structure that supports a specific application structure. Applications outside the supported structure must interact with multiple QoS management solutions. In this short paper, we present an overview of our dynamically configured and reconfigurable QoS metamanagement hierarchy. We present requirements for adaptive management structures and the incorporation of legacy QoS management solutions, compare our meta-management solution with other proposed, end-to-end QoS management structures, overview strategic and tactical QoS management services, and present the concept of policy domains. We conclude with a summary of the advantages of a dynamic QoS recta-management solution for distributed multimedia systems.
