Abstract

This paper describes the development of a language to describe international conflicts. This is part of a larger effort to generate sequences of events describing wars. In the paper, we discuss work on this project to date, which has focused on developing a set of terms and relations to denote the objects, agents, actions, and relationships found in war chronologies. We show how these terms are used to model war chronologies such as those found in Army War College Case Studies. We discuss the methodology employed, the source material used, the difficulties and limitations encountered, the current status of project as a whole, and future directions.
