Abstract

This paper discusses an integrated framework of IDEFmethods for generating a common data model usable fordiscrete manufacturing systems. From this data model, asimulation model is automatically generated using adatabase-driven and atom-based approach. A case studyhas been included to demonstrate the concept. Aprototype function model, a data model and the resultingsimulation model were constructed to show the feasibilityof the approach. The concept and guidelines provided areexpected to increase knowledge reusability between IDEFmethods and improve simulation model reusability andmaintainability through the features of the relationaldatabase technologies. Although the case study wasperformed for a semiconductor manufacturer, thisconcept can be easily extended to other areas.
