Agent-oriented conceptual modelling notations such asi* have received considerable recent attention as a usefulapproach to early-phase requirements engineering. Agent-orientedconceptual modelling notations are highly effectivein representing requirements from an intentional stance andanswering questions such as what goals exist, how key actorsdepend on each other and what alternatives must beconsidered. Formal methods such as those based on the Znotation offer a complementary set of representational facilities. This paper explores how these two otherwise disparateapproaches might be used in a synergistic fashion.
