Abstract

Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks has been threateningour evolving eCommerce and eServices on the Internetfor years. Regarding today's stateless Internetenvironment, researchers have designed various schemescarrying additional information to providing informationfor defending packet flooding attacks, packet droppingattacks, and routing protocol attacks. In this paper, wepresent a multifunctional scheme, the ICMP CaddieMessage scheme (iCaddie), which loads specializedICMP messages with route information of randomly-selectedIP packets, to support IP traceback, packetdropping detention, routing protocol protection, differential services as well as message authenticationand authorization.
