e-Transformation technologies, for the past fewyears, have been evolving towards the goal ofinformation integration and system interoperability. While there is no doubt that interoperable systems canenable many value-added functions and provide newbusiness opportunities, whether the currentdevelopment trend can really lead to some realimpacts on people's daily lives is still a commonlyasked question. In this paper, we first describe a valuechain of e-transformation that starts from theavailability of data from heterogeneous sources andstops at the ultimate goal of autonomous and context-awarecomputational services provision. Twoprototypes, name,y e-Bus Planner and e-FoodMarketplace are described for demonstrating thepromises that can be provided by informationintegration. We then argue that the value addingprocess should further be advanced along the chain byanalyzing Web-based social networks. The ultimateobjective is to benefit the end-users more directly andimmediately.
