Abstract

The design of good user interfaces is more of an art form than a science or engineering discipline. One of the problems faced by user interface designers is choosing the appropriate interaction technique for particular applications. At the present time the designer must rely on his memory and experience in making this choice. Our solution to this problem is the production of an interaction technique catalogue containing the descriptions of a large number of standard interaction techniques. We present the basic principles and organization of this catalogue along with some samples of its contents. The complete catalogue can be found in Green [5].
