Abstract

This paper describes novel work in which VR and Data Mining technologies have been combined in order to form a tool-kit which not only enables a user to create a custom-made system management tool from VRDM building blocks but also enables the user to explore system performance data, and hence perform system management tasks, by interacting with the intelligent visual objects comprising the tool.Exploration of the system data, its nature and depth of information, is driven by the speed at which the user interacts with the intelligent visual objects and the user's proximity to the objects. An example of the successful use of the tool-kit to build an Intelligent Decision Support Systems (IDSS) for use in network management in also described.
