Abstract

INBIOMED is a Biomedical InformaticsNetwork that coordinates biomedicalinformatics and biomedical research groupsworking on diverse approaches(pharmacogenetics, genetic epidemiology andimage-based diagnosis). The INBIOMEDinformatics platform is designed to facilitate theintegration and sharing of clinical, genetic andepidemiological data, as well as to provide toolsto analyze experimental data, predict andsimulate biomedical knowledge. The INBIOMED platform integratesinformation from heterogeneous data sources, based on the available standards, facilitating theapplication of information analysis to study aconcrete pathology. The integration of biomedical data will allowto obtain significant results to use in clinical andbiomedical research as, for example in thedevelopment of diagnostic systems based onmolecular and genetic classifications that couldbe applied in the study of tumors, thedevelopment of pharmacogenetics treatments, and the development of applications to improvepublic health research by means of thedevelopment of genomic epidemiology. This paper also presents the motivation for,and the initial stages in planning the applicationof grid technology for the INBIOMED Network.
