Abstract

In this paper a comprehensive design methodology forstand-alone vision sensor with application in manufacturingproduction lines is presented. The sensor can beemployed as a substitute for traditional sensors, such asphotoelectric and proximity sensors. The advantage ofthe vision sensor over traditional manufacturing sensorsis distinguishing the incoming product prior to determinationof the product position. The sensor is designedbased on Fuzzy Associative Database (FAD). The proposedmethod is extremely fast and suitable for realtime processing. After training, the sensor will be ableto recognize the coming product by conducting fuzzysearch over the knowledge base. If the vision sensorrecognized the product, the sensor provides the productcategory, position and speed for programmable logiccontrollers (PLC) or other controllers to perform furtheraction.
