Abstract

Agent based systems and architectures provide afirm foundation for design and development of anautonomic system. The key challenge is the selectionand efficient use of effective agent architecture. Amodel-driven approach accommodates the underlyingarchitecture to automate, as much as possible, thedevelopment process. The Cognitive AgentArchitecture (COUGAAR) is a distributed agentarchitecture that provides the primary components andan implementation platform for this research.COUGAAR has been developed primarily for verylarge-scale, distributed applications that arecharacterized by hierarchical task decompositions andas such is well suited for autonomic systems. Wepropose a framework for the agent-based, model-drivenarchitecture for autonomic applicationsdevelopment. The framework consists of two mainparts, General COUGAAR Application Model(GCAM) and General Domain Application Model(GDAM). Some COUGAAR related performanceissues are also discussed.
