Abstract

In wireless local area networks (WLANs), mobilitysupport is essential for providing seamless services. Thecurrent Mobile IP standard suffers several problems, especially for accommodating real-time mediaapplications. Most of the existing studies focus onimproving the performance between the Home Agent (HA)and Foreign Agent (FA). In this work, we propose abuffer management approach to enhance theperformance between the Mobility Agent (HA or FA) andthe Mobile Node (MN). The proposed scheme deals withthe packet delivery between MAs and MNs in Layer 2.Through the simulation, we show that our schemeimproves TCP throughput as well as reduces the UDPpacket loss rate. Moreover, it is implementation feasiblein both IPv4 and IPv6, and suitable for supportingQuality of Service (QoS).
