Many factors are combining to promote theuse of quantitative and statistical methods bypracticing software engineers. While thesetechniques are not new to industry in general,they are relatively new to the software industry.Consequently, there is significant uncertainty inthe community about their difficulty andapplicability. This tutorial provides anintroduction to basic concepts and shows howthey can be applied to help solve commonsoftware engineering problems.
