Abstract

Large number of peer processes are cooperating inpeer-to-peer systems. In this paper, we discuss a hierarchicalgroup protocol aiming at reducing communication andcomputation overheads for a scalable group of peer processes.A hierarchical group is composed of subgroupseach of which is furthermore composed of subgroups. Evenif messages are causally ordered in one subgroup, the messagesmay not be required to be causally ordered in a wholegroup. We discuss how to globally causally order messagesby ordering mechanisms in each subgroup.
