Abstract

In 2000, two important projects were launched in Japan. One was the probe information system. The goal was the building of an entirely new infrastructure using vehicles as mobile sensors, all connected to the same network. The other was the Internet ITS project. This project was intended to be the basis for the ideal ubiquitous computing environment, where vehicles are integrated into an external information society, making the most of the Internet.
