As the innovations in the automotive field shift more and more from mechanical solutions to electronic functions, the automotive domain emerges to one of the most potential application domains of software engineering. In this paper we explain the differences between automotive software and the classical embedded software domain and sketch out what the main application fields for software research in the automotive domain are.
