Abstract

Agents, grids, andmiddlewarearemore closely related than most might think.Theauthordiscussesthesoftware architecture for two software projects: one involving infrastructure fordistributed, pervasive computing;theotherinvolvingpartitioninghuge data sets across data gridsconsistingof thousands of PCs. On the surface, these projects seem verydifferent, butthere are similarities and lessons we can learn from comparingthemthathaveimplicationsfor agents, grids, Web services, pervasive computing, and middleware.
