Abstract

WLAN is susceptible to attacks due to the use of radio frequency which incurs data exposure. Though IEEE defined WEP as an enhancement to security, it is recently proved vulnerable in that the keys can be speculated. With the primary protection becomes void, there is a pressing need for alternative security measures. This research devised an innovative solution by developing a Proactive Wireless Intrusion Detection System (WIDS) by utilizing Short Message Service (SMS) and proactive techniques. The proposed WIDS is capable of preventing common wireless attacks such as WEP cracking, MAC address spoofing and war-driving.
