The systems development function is changing. A recent survey by Alloway and Quillard indicates that the demand for new systems is shifting away from transaction processing systems and toward managerial support systems [3]. The survey also points out large known and invisible backlogs in systems development requests. These changing demands are happening in conjunction with new developments in hardware and software technology. As changes occur in demand and technology, the systems development function strives to attain a high level of user satisfaction. Prototyping is suggested as a method for building better systems, faster.
