This paper details revisions to an upper-division computer networks class to adapt to external changes. These revisions include adopting a top-down approach, using network programming to motivate the discussion of network issues, providing an opportunity to experience the construction of a practical network application, and using student passion about network issues to develop research and argumentation skills.
