Abstract

Computing Curriculum 2001 recommends that eight hours of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) content be included in the computer science core. There is a common perception that HCI is too difficult for beginning programmers. Our experience demonstrates otherwise. This paper describes KlassroomSwing and the way that it has been used to incorporate the HCI component of Computing Curriculum 2001 into the first two programming courses. KlassroomSwing is a Java package that allows beginning programmers to construct graphical user interfaces and to incorporate various media into their programs. KlassroomSwing is available at www.nwmissouri.edu/~sanders/KlassroomSwing/KlassroomSwing.html.
