Computer professionals everywhere will have occasion to share with Hirondo's family and friends that sense of grievous loss evoked by his premature death. Almost all of us who do scientific calculations on IBM equipment benefit unknowingly from his craftsmanship, unknowingly because Hirondo was too self-effacing to secure the public recognition his work deserves. Let us mark his passing by acknowledging how much we owe him.
