Abstract

In a recent note in this Newsletter [1], Warner concludes that stiff ODE solvers may need to start up with a high-order method because a first-order startup can lead to certain incompatible requirements if the problem is sufficiently stiff. This note attempts to show why that conclusion is unwarranted.
