Hypertext is a tool which allows machine supported references between pieces of text in a single underlying database. This article outlines the implementation of xhype, a prototype hypertext system developed as a vehicle for exploring different aspects of hypertext systems and for examining different uses for hypertext in workstation environments. The system has been implemented for Sun workstations using the X11 windowing system.
