Abstract

This monograph is a slightly modified version of Schapire's 1991 MIT PhD thesis which won the 1991 ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award. The thesis, completed under the direction of Ronald L. Rivest, makes several major contributions to the field of computational learning theory.
