Abstract

Whenever it is necessary to communicate between analog and digital systems, analog-to-digital (A-D) and/or digital-to-analog (D-A) converters are required. These converters form basic links between the world of "real" phenomena, where the variables are generally continuous analog quantities, and the world of digital information processing (q.v.) and data communications, where the variables are discrete quantities.
