From time to time, individual computer scientists have noted that some aspect of computer technology or performance seems to conform to a pattern that (1) can be quantified, and (2) is likely to hold into the indefinite future. When and if their colleagues gather evidence that supports the observation, the prediction is deemed a "law" that is thereafter associated with the name of its proposer. This article defines and discusses the implications of four widely known computer laws.
