Abstract

This article provides an overview of mathematical programming--its scope, its methods, and the associated computer feasibility and efficacy of the methods. Mathematical programming as discussed here has nothing inherently to do with computer programming. Although mathematical programming is usually done by computer, this term refers to mathematical optimization, with or without constraints. A mathematical programming problem may be written without loss of generality as
