Abstract

METAFONT is a computer-controlled system for specifying the shapes of letters and other symbols. It was designed by Donald E. Knuth at the same time as TEX, a computer-controlled typesetting system, and it shares the same goals of quality and portability. Like TEX, METAFONT was written in the WEB language and has been placed in the public domain.
