Abstract

Claude Elwood Shannon, a native of Gaylord, Michigan, was born on 30 April 1916. He received bachelor of science degrees in electrical engineering and in mathematics from the University of Michigan in 1936, a master's degree in electrical engineering at MIT in 1940, and a Ph.D. in mathematics at MIT in 1940.
