Abstract

The Stretch computer (formally the IBM 7030) was the outcome of a research and development project started in 1955 and aimed at an advance in performance of about two orders of magnitude over the then existing computer technology and organization. It was a joint project between the IBM Corporation and the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory of the US Atomic Energy Commission.
