Abstract

The methodology of control by importance and exception (CIE) hasn't been adapted to IT owing to insufficient infrastructures. However, once an appropriate base is established, CIE can be a powerful management tool for IT items. CIE categorizes each item by its relative importance to other items in specified groups. Employing software CIE assists you to manage software items as assets, providing significant management advantages. After an organization develops an enterprise software inventory as the necessary infrastructure step, software CIE can optimize IT asset value to allocate development and evolution priorities. This is one of a set of integrated technologies developed to address managing constantly changing processes and systems, an aspect of an evolving business paradigm called the paradigm of change.
