Abstract

In this paper, we study the performance of Saitou and Nei's neighbor-joining method for phylogenetic reconstruction. We show that the edge linfin; radius of the method is at least 1/6. This partially answers a question by Atteson (1999). Previously, only an upper bound of 1/4 was known.
