Abstract

This paper explores the capabilities of a metadata framework based on learning technologies to make Learning Management Systems (LMS) interoperate with Learning Objects Repositories (LOR), so that the LOR can obtain information from the LMS context that facilitates the retrieval of existing and insertion of new documents. The study distinguishes two uses cases: indexation of a SCORM compliant document and insertion of an arbitrary document, and identifies several ways to automatically generate IEEE-LOM metadata starting from the LMS context. The framework will be deployed in two real learning projects, with two different LMS. Even if the produced metadata seems to well-described the learning resources, users involved in these projects will provide various feedbacks to enhance quality and relevance of automatically generated metadata.
