Asymmetric transmission ranges caused due to transmit powercontrol have the undesirable effect of increasing the numberof hidden terminals in the network as well as increasing theunfairness in channel access. In this paper we present a newreactive power controlled MAC protocol, SHUSH, which tacklesthe above problems. We compare the performance of SHUSHwith four other transmit power controlled MAC protocols anddemonstrate that SHUSH achieves superior aggregate goodput, spatial reuse, fairness, and minimal energy consumption.
